Audience Engagement Research - Outside

OUTSIDE MAGAZINE
Outside magazine has some of the same target audience and is appealing overall to the same crowd. For the target audience its mostly for people who want to get in shape and get outside for the reason of doing so. The age range can appeal to teenagers to older audiences i'd say around 10-50 years old. I'd say that outdoor activity and such topics can be for any age and gender so for my target audience its similar to how theirs are, appealing to both. For outside magazine 30% of the readers of the physical magazine are females and 70% are male. On the website its 35% females, and on social media 41%, so it can vary in who is interested in the particular activities and hobbies. The audience is from many places and many ethnics due to the magazine being more ranged in topics and not pinpointing on a specific person for a specific activity.


With income it shouldn't matter much since naturally our audience would relate on having a good enough income level to be able to purchase the luxuries of magazines. Educational, the audience must be knowledgeable enough to be able to understand the information in the magazine, and in outside they appeal to people who have the knowledge to do certain outdoor activities. It relates most with the same target audience with its topic and general interests being in line with mine. My magazine appeals to an audience of people who are interested in outdoor activities, fitness, health, and interest in a hobby/sport. Outside offers some of the same ideas with the health of outdoor activities and travel, as well as sports and hobbies with information on them. So our target audience both have an interest in such topics and their personal interest would be in outdoor things.


WEBSITE
Outside magazine has a good way to produce to the new generation of technology with their website. With it they offer many ways to easily access many parts of their magazine that people want to see and that satisfy those persons interests. They market this online magazine with a way to subscribe to the magazine to get full access of the many things on the site. The website gives people who cant get the physical magazine a chance to read the articles they want and appeals to a much wider audience. For my magazine I believe I would have a website to also take advantage of the online population and make marketing quick and easy. Also using the subscribing to the magazine online, it gives audience a multi-use and they come back to use the online magazine and read new articles. 


SOCIAL MEDIA
With social media they have a way to connect with their audience and find out their audiences many interests and ideas. I'ts also another way they can market their magazine or website to get more people to see the magazine. They have a persuasive way of making people want to do the activities they show by adding that they are trending or popular at the moment. Also, by having a social media account they can display posts of new upcoming magazines and relate the majority of new audience online. I would use social media to market and advertise my magazine also, due to it introducing the many people online and being easy to use a access. Online doesn't take as much money as overall producing real copies and finding places to advertise and sell the physical copy. By using an online platform you can save money and reach more of an audience because the internet is very diverse. Also, using the persuasiveness of labeling an activity 'trending' to get people to get an interest in something that alot of others are checking out.
