Distribution Research - Victory Journal

VICTORY JOURNAL

Magazines always have many plans of distribution, Victory Journal is no different. As mostly an independent distribution magazine where it plans many of its own plans of getting the magazine out into the world. The magazine's focus is sports and culture as it has articles mainly about many different sports and accomplishments. My magazine has around the same topic as it focuses on sports and outside activity so I felt this magazine was right to pick. First, Victory Journal uses a website to show off their magazine using internet distribution, where the magazine can get it out to online readers. The Internet is an easy and efficient way to distribute a magazine and I think Victory Journal does it well, giving a clean website and appealing to their genre audience.

With my magazine I would consider internet distribution due to its accessibility and with the new online crowd the magazine can circulate. Another way they distribute would be selective and exclusive distribution. What is meant by this is that if a magazine main focus is a certain genre and the audience in that genre than they distribute mainly to that audience. I feel like Victory Journal leans more towards selective but some topics could be exclusive, like the culture. They circulate to their main audience of people who are interested in the particular sports they present. My magazine may be more exclusive but I would follow Victory Journal's example of distribution. Also, Victory journal has a team of people who work on the distribution and printing of their magazine.

I think having a team or partners for distribution is very smart and effective. Each person has a role in the distribution and does their job. Their roster of people handling distribution may be different from other magazines but it allows for more organized distribution. For my magazine I would take advantage of partnering up with people or companies to produce and distribute more of the magazine. Mostly with partnering its a brand or organization that teams up with the magazine to get advertising and the magazine gets more attention and such. Victory Journal shows off particular people or brands to get support from people who enjoy those things, using this as a way of distributing it by using these 'popular' or 'trending' topics. Staying up-to-date is important for magazines like this to stay ahead of the competition so they use all the things offered to them to keep their audience engaged. My magazine would be similar with going up against the competition and staying up to date with my distribution to keep and gain audience for the magazine. With all these distribution plans this magazine thrives and has earned a following and many awards like a gold medal from the Society of Publication Designers (SPD) with much praise. So, these methods they use work for their magazine as every magazine has certain distribution ideas that work for them.
